Adapting to change is one of the hardest things for anyone. However, it is a requirement that every leader, every entrepreneur…must have, because success often lies in change.Or do you adapt and succeed or fail?
Ever since we were born, we have changed ourselves and our environment. And while there are parts of our body that adjust automatically, there are others that depend on us.
For example, my body has gotten used to not just drinking milk like it did when I was a baby. However, I had to voluntarily adapt to work and study during my studies.
And although they are different scenarios, we cannot deny that the lack of customization would bring many problems. For example, a baby who does not adapt to a different type of food can experience an imbalance in their body and even die. Likewise, in the other example, I ran the risk of dropping out of college if I didn’t conform.
As an entrepreneur, you are no exception. Going from non-entrepreneur to entrepreneur is already a change you need to adapt to!
Adapting to change Why don’t they adapt to me?
This is a mistake that has killed the projects of thousands of entrepreneurs. Thinking that everyone should conform is a grave mistake. That doesn’t mean it can’t happen in a moment, but you must always be willing to change yourself.
And it is that the market will not adapt to what you want to offer, on the contrary. The laws will not conform to what you think is best in relation to the customer, on the contrary, you must conform to the laws.
And even if you’ve been in an “X” market for a long time, you need to change your strategies and everything related to it when it changes. If you didn’t have an employee before and they did what you wanted, now you must and must protect them, give them benefits… as required by law.
They are two small examples out of many that you could give yourself that deserve a change in your life.
The great challenge of changing habits!
Beyond changes like the above, there is something more difficult and that is this change of habits. Well, it requires sacrifice, uncomfortable actions that we will feel in our own bodies. For example:
- I have to get up earlier.
- I can’t eat on the street as much to save money anymore.
- I have to stop going to every party.
- I can’t go up and down with my friends anymore.
They are changes that we find difficult to accept, but which undoubtedly can come and to which we must adapt. Since it’s not a whim, it’s a necessity. A failure according to these examples could be: non-completion of tasks due to delay, lack of capital to invest, little time for development of our project, causing delays, etc.
Change is uncomfortable
Adapting to change is important, but we must understand that it is not easy. Don’t be alarmed if someone on your work team doesn’t smile when you talk about change, or if you feel pain or worry yourself when you talk about change.
And it’s normal. Remember that, in most cases, change requires reorganization, a change in habits … and therefore requires work and sacrifice. No matter how passionate you are about your work, it will always bother you. Take it easy and understand that there are stages that need to happen:
- Refuse to change.
- Then you argue for not changing because you think everything is more comfortable than it is.
- Then comes acceptance.
- And finally, only the adaptation remains.
How do you adapt to change?
Since adapting to something is so necessary, it’s important that we know some tips that can help us on the subject. They are only 3 but they are very relevant when it comes to changing or staying in the same place. As simple or silly as you see it, I invite you to put it into practice:
1- Understand that it is necessary
The most important thing is to understand that change is often necessary and convenient for us. Understanding this will make it easier for you to adapt to change. Maybe not completely, but it’s easier to change if your mentality doesn’t change on a general level.
2- You have to convince yourself that change is good
In this case I mean the specific change. Well, you can hide behind “Not all changes are good”. You should sit down with someone else and make a list of the pros and cons of the changes you want to make. Only then can they decide if it’s really good or not.
This allows you to adapt more confidently. Since many people do not adapt, this change has more negative than positive consequences.
3- Do sacrifice exercises and small changes
We have already recommended it to change bad habits. It consists in denying ourselves certain pleasures and comforts that, while small, do not help us adapt to change.
For example, if you get up at 10am, start getting up at 9am, then at 8am, etc. Do it as a game or as a challenge. Shower with cold water. uncomfortable, right?
If you’re not responsible for washing the dishes, sweeping, and doing certain chores you don’t like, start doing it! All of this will help you get out of comfort and of course your body will start to tolerate more changes.
Ready to adapt to change?
I hope your answer is positive. Seriously, this will bring many benefits to your life as an entrepreneur. Nothing like a person open to the new that life brings, because not everything is bad, even if it seems, and only those who are able to take risks can reap its benefits.
Without adding anything to that, I can only say goodbye and wish you every success. A big hug! Until next time!
