5 tips from Steve Jobs to succeed as an entrepreneur
There are many tips that this good entrepreneur left us. However, this time I would like to highlight 5 that I particularly loved. I hope you can make the most of it and apply it in your life. Let’s start with the first!
1- Passion is the fuel that ignites the entrepreneurial engine
We have often talked about passion. And one of the reasons is that we learned it from different authors, including Steve Jobs. Let’s remember that again. And Steve Jobs always said: Do what you love! It is without a doubt one of the best ways to work in a company because even when you are tired you can keep going. As the subtitle suggests, passion is the fuel. What drives us.
So, starting today, you should try to increase your passion. It is for this reason that I recommend the article above, as it allows you to strengthen what drives you to go far in your entrepreneurship.
2- Don’t get carried away by impulses, you need to investigate!
It’s not all about letting yourself be carried away by passion and doing things for it. We have to keep cool heads and as Steve said, we have to know each other well, know our niche market, our strengths, weaknesses etc. The idea is to mix our passion with our ability to analyze and develop plans and strategies.
Once you have made the necessary evaluations, you will be able to make decisions based on something and not based on emotional impulses. Nothing in excess is good, and just getting carried away with passion without a plan can be awful.
3- Imitate what you want to be. Image is very important!
As we know, Jobs started his company in a garage, but he had bigger things in mind. He also knew that what people thought of his business was very important. So he set up a mailbox and contracted an answering machine so it looks like a professional company.
The message or advice is that although you are a small business, even if it works from home, you must offer a quality image, service and products. Advertise, design a website, enable social media… Don’t talk about trying a small business. You should label it as a whole company.
4- The “no” is sometimes good
One of Steve Jobs’ pieces of advice I like the most is to say “NO”. There are many ideas in our team. There is no doubt. However, there are some that are not so convenient. And in a way you have to discard them. As they say, innovation is not only the result of saying yes to good ideas, but also of saying no a thousand times.
So if someone from your team comes to you with an idea, you should analyze it very well. If a customer gives you a recommendation it’s the same, they won’t always be right. Therefore, when I say that you should listen to your customers’ suggestions, I always say that once they have been heard, they should be analyzed. There are entrepreneurs who, in order to please a customer, make a change to their product. And they end up affecting hundreds of clients who were fine, and now they’re not.
5- The value of people
This man teaches us a lot. And one of those Steve Jobs tips to remember is that people are more important than money. As an entrepreneur, don’t just say that to your employee, because for you as a boss, it’s very convenient to say “work and don’t look at what I pay you” haha. The message is for you, value your team and clients, that wanting more money doesn’t drive you to destroy people. For example:
- Don’t take advantage of your employees.
- Even less fool your customers with inferior products just to make more money.
When you value the people around you who are related to your business in one way or another, start infecting them with that attitude. And in the case of workers, they will also start treating customers well. And it’s clear that suits us. On the other hand, if you treat customers well, it is obvious that they will be more attracted to your offer. So now you know, without losing focus, start treating people better. They are humans with feelings and needs, not robots or money machines!
