There are many ways to get started with fruit, but a pulp store in particular is adapted to the needs of today’s consumer.
That is why I decided to write you an article on how to start a fruit pulp business so that you can start your business in a simple and easy way.
I hope it will be very useful to you.
In these times, consumers prefer natural and high-quality products for almost everything. They can be cosmetic products, food products and even for therapeutic and medicinal purposes.
These are current consumer trends, and that’s where we start talking about millennials.
Here I leave you this infographic so you know how to reach the heart of today’s consumer, check point 4 out of 10.
It is common to see a person preferring a healthy fruit juice over a soft drink, for example. That’s why the idea of starting a fruit pulp business seems excellent to me.
Now that you know you have a good idea, let’s get to the important stuff: how to make your pulp business a reality?
know your market
As I told you before, today’s consumer wants healthy, ecological and of course natural products.
In order to get closer to your market, it is always advisable to examine some statistics. According to studies on food consumption in Spain for the year, natural products experienced an increase compared to the previous year. Opportunity?
Also exploring the next year’s report, indicates that households spend 9.31% of their average grocery and beverage budget on buying fresh fruit. Opportunity?
Although the price of fruit has increased, people continue to buy and keep up the positive consumption numbers.

Let’s talk processed fruit
The pulp can be assigned to the “processed fruit” category. Let’s see how the market behaves.
Excuse me for insisting on the report, but the things we can interpret from it are very interesting.
8 out of 10 households throw away unprocessed food because it is in poor condition. Fruit, vegetables and fresh bread are the most commonly thrown away foods, accounting for 48.1% of the volume of waste.
Can you imagine this character? Here lies your true opportunity and the key to leveraging your marketing and sales campaigns.
[box type=”info”] IDEA! With fruit pulp, you can continue to enjoy the flavor and nutrients of the fruit without having to throw it away because you didn’t use it at the right time.[/box]
Now, not only do you have this active market, but you also offer an opportunity to people with busy days who may not be able to invest their time in making a juice. voila! You have the solution, you just have to take out your pulp, liquefy it and that’s it.
How are you? Isn’t that great? If you become a millionaire with fruit pulp, don’t forget me, remember that it was me who gave you the idea 🙂
Households spent 1.87% of the average budget on purchases in this category, which corresponds approximately to spending per capita of €28.04, 1.6% more than was invested per person in the previous year.
I know it sounded like a different language to you, but that’s why I’m here. What you want to know from this bunch of words is that each person invests €28.04 in processed fruit and that consumption has increased compared to 2014.
Let’s move on…
know your customer
This data will help you to define your target audience.
The typical household is an upper-middle class household with children whose purchasing manager is between 35 and 64 years old.
These are the characteristics of the people who consume the most processed fruits.
Knowing how to capitalize on this opportunity and defining your customer with this study in mind will direct your marketing campaigns towards these characteristics.
Now that I know you’re interested in statistics, at Emprender Fácil we have an e-book on what happened to the food market in Spain in 2014 You can download it for free.
Other details you should know to do with pulp
This is a product aimed at an audience that wants to eat in the best way and has it easy.
100% natural and ecological
It is good that you keep in mind that the product must be 100% natural, no tricks. People looking for such a product are usually picky about what they eat.
Packaging could make an ecological contribution, for example the pulp could go into jars; the consumer at the time the product was completed could use it to store something else.
Many people sell their products like this (in jars), like jam, honey, creams, oils, juices, etc. Using bottles is fashionable, it’s practical, beautiful and also ecological.
You can also pack in plastic bags…
Just like they do in this video.
This makes it easy for the consumer to cut the pulp and know the portions needed. And when frozen, it takes up less space.
If you ask me, I prefer the glasses because it’s more ecological. But if the product is to be distributed in restaurants, for example, the plastic bag certainly works better. However, packaging is optional.
[box type=”info”] The best thing about this product is that you don’t need to know much about it, but with little information you can do it yourself and even improve it according to your creativity. [/box]
Now let’s see where you can sell the pulp.
Where do I sell my pulp?
I think this is a product that people want to see, smell and even taste and that’s why for me the best place is a physical store.
You don’t need a big store to sell in your pulp store, but of course a small store will do, depending on what you want.
If you don’t already have the resources to start a business; Well I am telling you that there are many ways to sell your pulp… You could have a mobile stand, a kiosk, you could attend craft fairs, you could even sell from home and even have an online store .
Of course, do not forget that when choosing which one to go for, you must always have certain equipment necessary to preserve the product.
And if you’ll allow me one last quote from the report (so you have all the data you need for your business model), here it is:
53.6% of the kilos of processed fruit and vegetables are bought in supermarkets and self-service, with a favorable trend of 2.8% in 2015.
In other words, you can conveniently sell your fruit pulp in supermarkets and self-service shops.
Of course, depending on your production capacity, you could go for any of the ideas I gave you earlier.
But I would consider the stats 😉
Several ideas to start a pulp business
Well, now you might have different ideas, because the fruit pulp business is quite broad, you might not want to stock it, you might want to distribute it. Therefore we will see what the possible companies are.
You may or may not be the one making the porridge, if you’re the one who wants to make the porridge then things go back a bit, at least until you have enough staff.
In this case I recommend:
- An artisan pulp shop; in this you could also offer milkshakes, for example).
- pulp at home.
- Participate in trade fairs and promote your product.
- Sell from home and grow when you have income.
- Having an online store might be due to Facebook and Instagram which are more of a visual networks.
[box type=”info”] If you make the pulp yourself, you should source the raw material from orchards in your area, so you know the origin of the fruit and thus guarantee a healthy and high-quality product. [/box]
Equipment for selling pulp
Since we are talking about groceries, the matter is quite delicate, so you need to make sure that you have all the necessary paraphernalia to start your business. Because if you don’t have them, you could get in trouble.
To start you need:
- Drinking water is the most important thing of all. You must wash the fruit very well.
- A fridge, somehow you have to keep the pulp chilled because if not you risk damaging it.
- A blender, depending on how you make the pulp, the blender may be optional.
- chopping knife.
- Make sure to put your hair up, we don’t want any surprises.
[box type=”warning”] Don’t forget that grocery stores require specific permits and must meet specific requirements. Make sure you have all the paperwork in order.[/box]
EXTRA How to become more competitive?
You need to study the place where you want to start your pulp business, see if there are other people nearby who are doing the same thing as you and always try to choose a place where not many people are doing more of the same.
There are two ways to differentiate yourself and be more competitive, have a better price or be different.
In the fruit pulp business it occurs to me that to be different you could for example invent one with exotic fruit pulp, how about that? Imagine Chinese tamarind pulp, lulo, passion fruit. Fruits not typical of your area.
And to reduce costs, go to the outskirts, to farms, orchards, etc. In these areas you will surely be able to get the cheapest, healthiest and most suitable fruits. Don’t stick with the first supplier, keep looking so you can compete on prices.
Now let’s look at the example of Coco cold.
coconut cold is a reputable company that packs coconut water in 3 presentation cans, cartons and plastic bottles. Although Coco Cold is not a pulp company, it is a company that works with and markets something derived from the fruit. You could say it’s the same.
Coco Cold started offering its product in the most famous restaurants and beach shops. He offered the store advertisements if they accepted his product.
The Coco Cold Market is made up of people of all ages who are on the beach and want to cool off of course.
Besides being an exotic product, it differs from others because the coconut is not native to the region. In this way, Coco Cold competes in addition to being sold in the most famous beach restaurants.
So, based on stats and real-world examples, we know that starting a pulp business is a good idea, right?
Surely what you had in mind has taken shape, you feel more confident and better prepared. Because it’s also an easy business to start with great growth opportunities.
Don’t think about it anymore and start the meaty pleasure!
