First off, what is spam in email marketing? Spam is defined as messages that arrive in your inbox unintentionally, without your consent. Generally, spammers send messages to a large number of people at once, and the messages can be commercial or outright viruses.
As much as you “legally” collected the e-mails from your database, it can happen that the anti-spam filters classify your messages as spam, even though they are well-intentioned messages addressed to the right audience. This can be due to several factors and an email blocked by an anti-spam filter is not always deleted by all filters.
Pay attention to the following details that often lead to messages being sorted into the spam folder, and follow these best practices to avoid it:
- Format: NEVER write your emails in CAPITAL LETTERS, especially not in the title. Also avoid wildly different colors and excessive punctuation (!!!???).
- Contents: Certain special words cause emails to be identified as spam. Avoid terms like Click here, 24 hours, free, unmissableand everything to do with making money.
- Pictures: Today, anti-spam filters tolerate images in email marketing, but still avoid using excessive or heavy images. Ideally, you should split your newsletter into 50% text and 50% image.
- Other details: Try to write titles with 50 characters or less and use “alt text” tags so that your email can be understood by the servers before the images are loaded.
