Entrepreneurs and Entrepreneurs, in this article we want you to learn in a very different way than we are used to.
I believe that the answer to the question of how to promote a product or service is not “You have to do this or that”. But the answer will be: “You shouldn’t do that”.
In other words, I’ll show you the mistakes to avoid when promoting your business. Because you can have the best plans to promote yourself, but if you make these mistakes, everything can fall apart.

Every entrepreneur is overcome by fear at some point and wants their product to be known quickly. However, this fear is not so good and can lead us to make fatal mistakes.
Why deadly? because doing so wastes time and money, which can lead to disappointment, discouragement or resource depletion. To put it more bluntly, it can spell the end of your business.
So let’s explore what are the most common and serious mistakes you can make when promoting yourself. Do you know how to promote your product? Here is the answer based on the error!
Mistake #1: Not wanting to invest.
As you have just read, not wanting to spend a few bucks to get your product out there is a big mistake. I don’t want to discourage you as you may not have the resources to invest money.
But although you could advertise yourself without investing a single euro, we cannot deny one reality: investing (money) in advertising gives you a big boost!
And it so happens that advertising is possible without money, but it requires more effort. Not to mention the time it takes to see results, it’s longer.
For example: You don’t pay ads campaigns on Facebook to get more likes on your fan page, instead you decide to spend all day on your computer texting different people asking you to like. More effort and less result!
Another example would be that instead of paying a team of people to hand out flyers, you take a full day to do the work yourself. What’s happening? You travel less, take more time, and most importantly, you stop doing other important things!
I want to emphasize the latter: you stop doing other very important things! Do you know why not investing in advertising is a loss for many? because they would rather save the money but stop producing.
So if you have the resources, no problem, promote yourself as you can. But if you have the opportunity, I invite you to invest and devote yourself to what you really need to do: work on your product, make improvements, be creative, innovate…!

Invest money in advertising, everything will be faster and more productive. So my awesome little entrepreneur spends a few bucks on a little action to get started.
Mistake #2: Leaving design behind.
As I mentioned at the beginning of the article, because of this fear of going to market quickly, making ourselves known and selling, we make many mistakes, one of them is not worrying about how our brand will be.
Instead of taking our time and preparing a good logo, a good name, a poster, a banner … we take out our product without a good design, we make a logo that is not seen very well, we give a race Names and so on Since we leave the design to a second level, we think it’s important that the person sees our product quickly.
So if you are wondering how to promote a product or service, here is the second answer:
Take time to create a good image ie attractive logo, eye-catching name, eye-catching posters etc. The idea is to grab the customer’s attention.
Mistake #3: You don’t know your audience.
If you’ve read any of our Business Model Canvas designs, you’ll certainly recognize this point. And the thing is, we can’t pretend to promote our product if we don’t know who we’re trying to reach.
Suppose you release a new shampoo and start handing out flyers on the street, paying for internet campaigns, etc. How do you know which stretch of street or internet sites to advertise yourself on?
The mistake of many not to ask these questions. But go anywhere to pay for them to offer their products.
Realizing they are not getting good results and they investigate, they find that their Facebook campaign was showing ads to men even though the shampoo they were offering was for women…
…or handing out brochures in a shopping mall full of moneyed people who didn’t give a damn about your handmade product.
So if you ask me how to promote your business my answer would be:
Describe who needs your product, where you can find people with that profile, and where you distribute brochures, pay for campaigns, etc.
Mistake #4: Disclosing your product and not trying it.
Let’s face it, your product or service might be the best in the world, but if you were a customer yourself, you would doubt the quality. And the thing is, you’re new, no one knows you. How are people supposed to know that what you offer is true and gives good results?
But we arrive and we make a big mistake, we think like “I’ll start selling and I need to get back the money I’ve invested, every cake I sell is important, so no giving away”.
And it doesn’t matter that you are like that, because that kind of passion for your product gives you strength. But when starting a business, you need to lower your vigilance a bit and even include “A Taste” in your plans.

Make a small investment that you can use to give the customer a little taste of your product or service as a sample!
- If you sell cakes, give away X free coupons when you open.
- Do you have a hair salon? Make a day women can get a free haircut.
