This time we continue to learn how to sell a website. So if you want to have your own website business, you can’t miss it.
The first thing to do before starting a business is design. And since we want our website business to be a success, we’ve done it, we’re working on its design using the Canvas model.
This is the third part of our How to Sell a Website (Business Design) series, below I leave you the first two, in case you want to see them, I recommend them!
In short, what we designed there was this:
If you want to understand much better and know how we did all this, go to the first and second parts, everything is clear there!
If you notice that there are a lot of spaces, we will complete them in this article. Let’s move on!
How to Sell a Website (Canvas Mockup).
In every business there are important issues that we need to take care of, including the basic resources for success. For this reason the design of how to sell a website is very important because it allows us to describe these resources and when starting our business we know what we need and not overlook it!
Step 6: Describe the key resources to running a successful business.
The most important resources are those that help deliver our value proposition and provide quality service. So, we will describe the resources that we will need in our website business.
- A good website with a good portfolio is key. It’s difficult for a customer to want to buy something if they don’t see our experience.
- This website must allow the customer to create a personal account. This allows us to track referral discount affiliation.
- Design programs that simplify designing include software such as Photoshop, Dreamweaver, WordPress. The more the design is facilitated the better, so you will have a faster delivery and a better quality if we compare it to the web pages made without using these tools.
- Audit and testing team to ensure service quality.
- Knowledge beyond design (maintenance, web upload to server…).
- Software integrated with the Internet to calculate the budget (see relationship with the customer in the second part of this series).
Step 7: Key activities for our website business.
Our main activity is selling websites and maintenance services, however we need to describe some key activities for this to be achieved.
What do I have to do to achieve my goals and my value proposition? That’s what we need to answer to complete this module.
- Draft a sales letter linked to our portfolio.
- If you haven’t designed websites, a key activity is to design a few to add to your portfolio.
- Publish our services in various freelancer portals.
- Keep updating our profiles on outsourcing marketplaces like freelancer.com.
- Keep checking the offers on these freelancer websites.
- Keep writing valuable content for our website’s blog to get better positioning on Google.
- Contact with the customer before, during and after the design. It’s important that he sees what we’re designing.
- Check the work done so we avoid mistakes that displease our customers, no matter how small.
- Perform website maintenance and updates. If it is possible to suggest updates and not expect the customer to take the initiative.
- Contact professionals such as Blogger, SEO, among others, to have them available in case a client requests them. We can’t contact anyone, so we need to do some kind of test or look for references of their work.
Step 8: Key partners for our business.
In this series on how to set up a website, it is necessary to talk about partners.
Key partners are those alliances that are necessary for the implementation of our business model.
In our website design company we consider the following key partners:
- Freelancer Portals: Without them, it would be harder to get clients.
- Blogs that sponsor us through their articles.
- Google is a great partner without whom almost nobody on the internet would know us. Well, our website is designed to please you and position you.
- Team of web designers (maybe just you at first, but over time as demand increases, you will need to hire more). This contains:
- The person who will shape the web as such.
- The designer responsible for creating images, animations, etc. that are placed on the web.
- Server companies, remember that we offer a complete service that also helps us generate income.
- Other professionals such as bloggers, SEO, etc.
- Our customers also become partners when they refer us (remember they get a maintenance discount for every customer they refer to us).
Step 9: Cost Structure.
Every business has its costs, although we often don’t like it, we have to talk about it. Knowing what we have to spend allows us to prepare in advance!

So if you want to know how to sell websites, you should not skip this step. See an example of our structure.
advertising expenses.
We must state in their articles which blogs charge us for sponsoring our business. The costs of ads campaigns must also be taken into account.
Although the freelancer portals are free, some memberships can be paid to get better visualization and increase the possibility of attracting clients.
Local (our website).
Something that is very clear when learning how to sell a website is that our business does not require a physical location, but we will consider our website to be “local” because it has some costs. For example:
- Web design (you can save yourself that if you do it yourself).
- Server and domain rental.
Salary.
We have to pay a salary to:
- A person who maintains our website: You could do it yourself, but as the business grows it will be necessary to hire someone to do it.
- Website designers.
- People responsible for the design of images, animations…
We do not include bloggers, SEO… because remember that they are associations, that is to say we recommend them to them and they pay us a commission.
However, as our company grows, if we can have our own team, we would have to pay a salary to these professionals!
What do you think of our design?
As you can see, we have already finished our store design based on the canvas mockup for selling websites. With that, we already have a platform to start working and building our business.
What are you waiting for? follow your dreams and goals, don’t be afraid you’re not alone. Here at advertise-easy we will support you, if you have any questions, you can write to our email or leave a comment.
