After receiving 55 new proposals from startups in its fifth call for proposals, those selected for the new edition of SANTALUCÍA PROMOTESthe insurance group’s entrepreneurship and open innovation ecosystem.
On this occasion, the insurance company’s Corporate Acceleration Program for Innovative Projects has encouraged the provision of solutions in these two areas and, in its commitment to innovation and constant renewal, has sought new solutions that meet the needs of its customers.
Ángel Uzquiza, Corporate Director of Innovation at SANTALUCÍA, highlighted the quality and number of projects in this edition: “The technologies that dominate in more than half of the presented solutions are: artificial intelligence, machine learning and cloud, a fact that shows the alignment of innovation with market trends.”
Regarding the origin of the participating candidates, countries such as Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, the United States, France and the Netherlands contributed 15% of the proposals, while Catalonia and the Community of Madrid are the main origin of the national candidates. followed by Andalusia and the Valencian Community.

This year the challenges in the area of fatalities were related Reinventing funeral insurance with a focus on new trends, different farewells and new services before death. Santalucía focused on finding solutions that improve the design of this type of insurance product and add value. The company has sought solutions that respond to society’s new needs in its relationship model with death, both in life and after death.
The two chosen were:

In the world of travel, the proposals aimed to renew the focus of travel insurance, in search of happiness through traveling again and complementing the range of existing products and services for all types of travellers. These startups were selected for the Traveltech Challenge:
• Vyotrip: is a travel management platform for companies that enables the optimization and automation of all related processes.
• view way: It allows the traveler to instantly present any travel destination around the world with all the content of videos and photos.
The other finalist startups of this challenge were: Bsurance, Vivenzzia and Liight in the Traveltech section. Other fatality finalists included E-terns, Vivo Recuerdo and Funos.
Everything you need to get started
The selected startups started the program on January 18 with the aim of completing a proof of concept by April. From there it will be determined which of the challenges will advance to the next (and final) stage. During that time they will have Mentoring and Training –One to one care“– with experts from SANTALUCÍA.
In addition, they will use the conceptualization and Funding of the prototype, direct cooperation – possibility to create alliances with the insurer, which facilitates the possible funding or investment at the end of the program – access to the LAB SANTALUCÍA IMPULSA, a space where internal and external innovation coexist with the aim of creating new innovative and disruptive solutions. In this way, the award-winning startups can exchange experiences and create synergies with other entrepreneurs.
They are also disseminated in the insurer’s media and social networks, Access to the SANTALUCÍA API Market, the first API market in the insurance sector, where they will be able to integrate the developed applications and access other value-added services such as partner Strategy in entrepreneurship by SANTALUCÍA.
